It is responsible for inspecting and regulating services that provide education and skills for learners of all ages, as well as services that care for children and young people. Ofsted's role is to ensure that these services meet high standards and provide quality education and care.

Why do we have Ofsted inspections?

Ofsted inspections are crucial for maintaining and improving the quality of education and training services. They provide an independent assessment of how well educational institutions and training providers are performing. The inspections help:

  • Ensure Quality: By evaluating the effectiveness of teaching, learning, and assessment, Ofsted ensures that learners receive high-quality education and training.
  • Promote Improvement: The feedback from Ofsted inspections helps institutions identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes.
  • Provide Accountability: Ofsted reports offer transparency and accountability, allowing parents, learners, and employers to make informed decisions about education and training providers.
  • Recognise Excellence: Institutions that perform exceptionally well are recognised and can serve as models of best practice for others.
