Industry-leading engineering apprenticeships
MTC Training delivers apprenticeships built for the future of engineering. With expert teaching and state-of-the-art facilities, apprentices get real, hands-on experience and employers gain the skilled talent they need to stay ahead.
What are engineering apprenticeships at MTC Training?
Our apprenticeships are about putting learning into action, combining on-the-job experience, technical knowledge and live projects to develop engineers that are ready for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.
At MTC Training, apprentices spend time developing their technical capabilities in one of our industry-leading training facilities before applying their skills in the workforce. Working alongside our experienced Trainers and Skills Coaches, they learn how to collaborate together, think creatively and solve real-world problems – building the mindset that’s essential in modern engineering environments.
Our level 2-3 apprenticeships and HNC courses help learners to develop both core engineering and transferable professional skills, while also providing exposure to emerging technologies and cutting-edge equipment.
For employers: recruiting and developing talent
The benefits of apprenticeships for learners are clear. But for employers? They’re an effective way to shape the workforce you need for the future – closing the skills gap when the demand for engineering talent has never been higher.
Bringing a fresh perspective, experience of MTC’s cutting-edge equipment and processes, and the ability to develop talent that’s aligned to your operational needs, our rigorous programmes ensure apprentices contribute early in their role. Plus, by applying skills on the job, apprentices can maintain resilience to evolving technologies, reduce errors and boost output, while clear progression paths motivate teams and improve retention.
At MTC Training, accessing this talent is straightforward. Our experts guide you every step: identifying the right pathways, securing levy funding, tracking progress, and creating long-term pipelines.
By investing in apprenticeships with MTC Training, you’re investing in the future capability of your business.
Our engineering apprentice training opportunities
Level 2-3: Our Foundation and Advanced Engineering Apprenticeships
Engineering apprenticeships at MTC Training are built to help learners progress confidently through a clear skills pathway aligned with national standards.
We currently offer apprenticeships at levels 2 and 3, each opening up new opportunities for growth.
Ideal for school leavers or those starting their engineering journey, Foundation (level 2) and Advanced (level 3) programmes provide training in core engineering disciplines – such as machining, assembly and maintenance – while also building essential professional skills. At this stage, apprentices typically work towards technical diplomas, proving they can perform key tasks to industry standards.
Other engineering apprenticeship levels and qualifications
While we do not currently offer apprenticeships beyond Level 3, Level 4-7 apprenticeships may be worth exploring depending on your career goals. They can provide a valuable next step for those ready to take their learning even further.
Level 4–5: Higher Apprenticeships and HNC Pathways
For those ready to advance their knowledge, level 4-5 apprenticeships combine enhanced on-the-job responsibility with advanced study focusing on more specialised areas of engineering. The qualification element at this level often includes HNCs (Higher National Certificates) and higher national diplomas.
Level 6–7: Degree and Postgraduate-Level Apprenticeships
Designed for experienced technicians or managers aiming to combine leadership development with advanced technical expertise, level 6-7 apprentices earn bachelor’s or master’s degrees while working full-time. Apprentices at this stage may take on strategic projects, mentor others, and work towards professional registration with relevant engineering institutions.

FAQs
Read our FAQs to help you fully understand how our apprenticeship opportunities work.
What is an engineering apprenticeship?
An engineering apprenticeship is a structured programme that combines paid work experience with structured lessons and study. Apprentices gain recognised qualifications while also developing valuable skills in a real working environment.
Who are engineering apprenticeships suitable for?
Engineering apprenticeships are a great option for school leavers looking for an alternative to university, as well as anyone who has left full-time education and wants to start a career in engineering. They are also a good choice for people already working in the industry who want to develop new skills or progress into more advanced engineering roles.
What qualification levels can you achieve through an engineering apprenticeship?
There are a range of apprenticeship pathways, from entry-level programmes through to higher and degree-level options. At MTC Training, we currently offer apprenticeships at levels 2 and 3, meaning learners can achieve qualifications equivalent to GCSEs or A-levels.
How do engineering apprenticeships benefit employers and learners?
For learners, apprenticeships are ideal for gaining on-the-job experience, earning a salary while learning, and developing the technical engineering and soft skills that employers value most.
For employers, apprenticeships help to develop a skilled workforce that’s tailored to their business needs. With MTC Training, they also bring exposure to cutting-edge techniques, technologies and processes, provide a fresh perspective and add value to operations early in their role.
