Other engineering apprenticeship levels and qualifications

While we do not currently offer apprenticeships beyond Level 3, Level 4-7 apprenticeships may be worth exploring depending on your career goals. They can provide a valuable next step for those ready to take their learning even further.

Level 4–5: Higher Apprenticeships and HNC Pathways

For those ready to advance their knowledge, level 4-5 apprenticeships combine enhanced on-the-job responsibility with advanced study focusing on more specialised areas of engineering. The qualification element at this level often includes HNCs (Higher National Certificates) and higher national diplomas.

Level 6–7: Degree and Postgraduate-Level Apprenticeships

Designed for experienced technicians or managers aiming to combine leadership development with advanced technical expertise, level 6-7 apprentices earn bachelor’s or master’s degrees while working full-time. Apprentices at this stage may take on strategic projects, mentor others, and work towards professional registration with relevant engineering institutions.

How to apply for an apprenticeship

Applying to become an apprentice with MTC is simple. You can either complete our apprenticeship application form, search for our opportunities on the UK Government website, or apply for any of our current apprenticeship vacancies.

If you meet the initial entry requirements, you will be invited to attend one of our Assessment Centres. This is a great opportunity to meet the team and explore our industry-leading facilities. During the session, you will complete an interview with one of our trainers, a group task designed to demonstrate your teamwork and problem-solving abilities, and a mechanical aptitude assessment.

Those who are successful at this stage will then have the opportunity to apply for specific roles with our employer partners. Candidates who are selected by our employer partners will secure their place on the programme and begin their apprenticeship at MTC Training.

What is an engineering apprenticeship?

An engineering apprenticeship is a structured programme that combines paid work experience with structured lessons and study. Apprentices gain recognised qualifications while also developing valuable skills in a real working environment.

Engineering apprenticeships are a great option for school leavers looking for an alternative to university, as well as anyone who has left full-time education and wants to start a career in engineering. They are also a good choice for people already working in the industry who want to develop new skills or progress into more advanced engineering roles.

There are a range of apprenticeship pathways, from entry-level programmes through to higher and degree-level options. At MTC Training, we currently offer apprenticeships at levels 2 and 3, meaning learners can achieve qualifications equivalent to GCSEs or A-levels.

For learners, apprenticeships are ideal for gaining on-the-job experience, earning a salary while learning, and developing the technical engineering and soft skills that employers value most.

For employers, apprenticeships help to develop a skilled workforce that’s tailored to their business needs. With MTC Training, they also bring exposure to cutting-edge techniques, technologies and processes, provide a fresh perspective and add value to operations early in their role.

You can apply for an engineering apprenticeship at MTC Training in one of three ways:

  1. Submitting our apprenticeship application form
  2. Searching for our opportunities on the UK Government website
  3. Applying for any of our current apprenticeship vacancies.

Once eligibility is confirmed, you may be invited to attend an assessment or interview as part of the selection process.
