By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Provide fundamental knowledge of what laser processing is in terms of theory of laser light, laser types, laser systems and laser material interaction
  • Provide an overview of laser safety aspects and how to run a laser system safely
  • Provide an insight into a number of widely applied laser process configurations such as welding, drilling, texturing (amongst others) and associated industrial applications
  • Provide an overview of the laser processing surface integrity considerations including dimensional aspects, surface and subsurface quality and typical defects
  • Provide basic knowledge on how to design and run a laser processing experiment
  • Provide an overview of process failure modes and effects analysis (PFMEA) for specific process configurations
