Nuclear engineering apprenticeships
Prepare for a role in the rapidly developing nuclear sector with our Level 2 Nuclear Apprenticeships.
Depending on the programme you choose, your focus will be on areas such as plant safety, equipment handling, radiological protection, contamination control, and monitoring – working towards Operational or Nuclear Health Physics Monitor roles within the industry.

Depending on your apprenticeship programme, you’ll be based at one of our four specialist training centres: the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre (AMTC), Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS), MTC Liverpool, or MTC Training Tyneside.
Located just outside Coventry, the AMTC is a state-of-the-art facility equipped with the latest machine tools and technologies to support practical learning and development.
In Oxford, the OAS centre features some of the UK’s most advanced engineering and manufacturing equipment, supporting hundreds of apprentices each year.
MTC Liverpool is based within Liverpool Science Park, supporting manufacturers in the North West and boasting a central location, being just 10 minutes’ walk from Liverpool Lime Street Rail Station.

What is it like to be an MTC Training Apprentice?
Being an MTC Training apprentice is hands-on, supportive, and fast-paced, with a strong focus on real-world experience and personal development.
You’ll work with technologies and projects you might not expect early in your career, from robotics and automation to modern manufacturing systems. Many apprentices say they discover new areas of engineering they didn’t even know existed.
But it’s not just about technical skills, you’ll also develop the professional behaviours expected in industry, such as confidence, communication, problem-solving and teamwork. Our apprentices consistently highlight the support from trainers and peers as a key part of the experience. What qualifications do I need to apply for an engineering apprenticeship in the UK?
To apply for any apprenticeship, you need to be 16 years of age or over, living in England, and not currently in full-time education.
The entry requirements for an engineering apprenticeship at MTC Training are:
Level 2: You must have either achieved at least a Grade 2 (equivalent to an E under the previous grading system) in GCSE English and Maths, or have a Functional Skills Level 1 qualification. If you do not already have either of these qualifications, Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Maths will be included as part of the apprenticeship.
Level 3: You’ll need to have achieved, or be predicted to achieve, at least five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (equivalent to a C under the previous grading system), including Maths, English Language, and a Science. We also accept Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English.
How do I apply for an MTC Training apprenticeship?
You can apply to join an MTC Training apprenticeship programme in one of three ways:
- Complete an apprenticeship application form via our website
- Find one of our programmes and submit an application through the government website
- Apply to one of our employer partner apprenticeship vacancies
Once we’ve received your application and confirmed that you’re eligible for the apprenticeship programme, you’ll be invited to an assessment centre where you’ll have the opportunity to take a look around our advanced facilities, meet some of our team, and undertake an interview and a mechanical assessment.
Will I earn a salary while completing my apprenticeship?
Yes, all apprentices earn a salary during their apprenticeship with MTC Training. Exceeding the UK government’s recommendation, the basic salary for our first year apprentices starts at £8,000 and varies depending on the employer you work for. This salary also increases yearly as the apprentice grows in capability and experience.

Your apprentice training will be delivered at one of our four world-class training and workshop facilities in Liverpool, Coventry, Oxford and Tyneside. Liverpool Science Park is home to our MTC Liverpool facility, which is just 10 minutes’ walk from Liverpool Lime Street Rail Station. Our Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre (AMTC) in Coventry, a state-of-the-art building, houses the latest in machine tools and new technologies. Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS) in Oxford supports advanced engineering apprentices and boasts outstanding learning facilities. Our Tyneside location is brand new for 2026 and will create new apprenticeship opportunities in the North East.

Many apprentices move straight into full-time roles such as Manufacturing Engineer, CNC Machinist, or Maintenance Engineer, often with the same employer they trained with. Across all sectors, government research shows that 59% of businesses retain more than half of their apprentices.
Others choose to continue their education, progressing to Higher or Degree Apprenticeships, HNCs, HNDs, full engineering degrees, or professional certifications and chartership pathways.
