This practical course covers the essential safety requirements and most common skills required when operating milling machines and centre lathes.

Training focuses on correct machine setup, accurate measurement, tooling selection, and producing components from technical drawings.

Set up of milling and turning machines
Turning between centres
Machining internal and external features
Compound slide alignment for producing angles
Use of a variety of work‑holding methods

Measurement, Accuracy & Setup

Use and reading of a depth micrometer
Use of vernier calipers
Edge finding and datum setting
Producing accurate work from technical drawings

Tooling & Equipment Covered

Boring tooling
Grooving tooling
Edge finder and datum tools
Centre drills
